Spreewald discovery tour

Burg, the gateway to the Oberspreewald, can be reached quickly. A short detour to Vetschau to the white stork center and the city palace is worthwhile. Your path continues through the high forest to Lehde, the pocket-sized lagoon village (fontane), which still radiates its original character today. Here the barge is still the most important means of transport and the open-air museum gives you an insight into the life of the Sorbs in the past.

Overnight place: Lübbenau or the surrounding area

You leave Lübbenau, not without enjoying the colorful hustle and bustle of the market at the Great Harbour. From Lübben you cycle through a wonderful pond landscape to Schlepzig, the most beautiful village in the Lower Spreewald. Many sights such as the farmer's museum, a brewery and a distillery, a small boat ferry port and the visitor center of the UNESCO biosphere reserve can be visited. Afterwards, all bathing enthusiasts can take a detour to Lake Köthen before heading back to Lübben through the pine forest of the Mark Brandenburg.

Overnight place: Lübben or surroundings

After Lübben you dive back into the quiet landscape of the biosphere reserve and cycle through a magnificent forest and meadow landscape. In Straupitz, the Schinkel Church and the Dutch Mill are worth seeing. Shortly thereafter, Burg, one of the three main towns in the Spreewald, awaits you. Due to the countless watercourses (river) it is also called the "Venice of the East". With the round tour around the castle, you can extend the route to 65 km.

In the scattered settlement of Burg, you can get to know the Spreewald from the water by paddle boat or on a relaxed boat trip. More than 200 tiles offer excellent conditions for this. The Therme Burg also invites you to relax with its 36°C warm brine. For all cyclists, there are two dreamy Spreewald villages in the vicinity, past bathing lakes and finally a 4 km long ride through the high forest.

Overnight place: Like the day before in Burg

From the Bismarck Tower you cycle along the old Spreewaldbahn route. You will reach the stork village of Dissen with its interesting local history and stork museum. Experience a successful renaturation of the river between Dissen and Maiberg. The path then leads to the old fortified town of Peitz and on through the Peitz ponds with nice places to stop for refreshments. Along the way is the Cottbuser Ostsee, which was created from a former lignite opencast mine and will become the largest artificial lake in Germany once it has been flooded.
