Day 1: Arrival in Cottbus
During the day you travel to Cottbus on your own. With its large parks and gardens, the Lusatian metropolis on the edge of the Spreewald is one of the greenest cities in Germany. The old town around the Altmarkt invites you to stroll and enjoy a pleasant end to the day.
Overnight stay in the center of Cottbus.
Day 2: Cottbus - Lübbenau, approx. 47-52 km
Burg, the gateway to the Oberspreewald, is quickly reached, where delicious cucumber ice cream awaits you as a reward in Cafe Urban. In the Bicycledusch farm shop you can stock up on Spreewald delicacies before you cycle on one of the most beautiful sections of the trail through the high forest to Lehde, the "pocket-sized lagoon city" (Fontane). In Germany's only cucumber museum you will learn interesting facts about the tradition of cucumber cultivation. Finally, in Lübbenau, the secret capital of the Spreewald, you can plunge into the colorful hustle and bustle of the market at the Great Harbor and taste your way through the different varieties of gherkins on the gherkin mile.
Overnight stay in Lübbenau and the surrounding area.
Day 3: Lübbenau - Burg, approx. 45-77 km
You should start today with a tour of the Spreewald Rabe gherkin factory. The dam path takes you to the Paul Gerhardt town of Lübben. The castle with the castle island, one of the 5 boat ferry ports and Gurken-Paule invite you to take a break. We continue via Straupitz to Burg, optionally via Schlepzig. Straupitz greets you with its well-known Schinkelkirche and the Dutch mill, which has 3 mills. Among other things, the healthy linseed oil is produced here, which is indispensable for the Lusatian national dish of potatoes with quark. From the small harbor you have the opportunity for individual boat trips far away from mass tourism and then the old granary invites you to coffee and cake. Finally, Burg awaits you, which is also known as the "Venice of the East" with over 200 bridges and tiles
Overnight stay in the castle.
Day 4: Burg - Cottbus, approx. 44 km
After breakfast, how about a cucumber wellness program in the Spreewaldtherme? Well rested, you cycle from the Bismarck Tower along the old Spreewaldbahn route to the stork village of Dissen, where around 8-12 pairs of storks breed every year. In the local history museum you will learn everything you need to know about the Sorbs and Master Adebar. From the old fortified town of Peitz it goes through the largest contiguous pond area in Germany. The traditional excursion restaurant Maustmühle offers a beautiful view of it and delicious Plinse. Afterwards, at Lakoma, it is worth taking a look at the former lignite opencast mine, from which the Cottbus Baltic Sea is to be created in the next few years.
Overnight stay in Cottbus.
