Arrival in the cathedral city on the Saale during the day to your hotel. Get in the mood for the coming days with a stroll through the alleys of the old town.
Overnight place: Naumburg
This traditional Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region is located at the beginning of the romantic Saale Valley around Naumburg and on the slopes of the Unstrut near Freyburg. Many cities and towns are interesting because of their history, but also because they are traditional wine towns. Dry and pure wines develop on the warm valley slopes of Saale and Unstrut. The vines grow mainly on limestone soils, which gives the wines a soft character.

Today's destination is the wine-growing town of Freyburg an der Unstrut. You cross the Saale in the direction of Roßbach and then follow the cycle path along the Unstrut to Freyburg. Take the opportunity to visit the Red Riding Hood winery or a local winemaker (own arrangements). Leaving the valley, it is worth visiting Neuenburg Castle above Freyburg.

The train takes you to Dornburg (Saale) in about 20 minutes (on your own).
Surrounded by vineyards, on a rocky plateau above the Saale, there are three castles in an imposing location. More than 800 years of history are united here. The Old Castle contains the remains of a medieval castle. The rococo palace is a gallant pleasure palace of the
18th century with porcelain collection. The Renaissance castle is closely linked to the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He raved about the lovingly tended palace gardens - they are a real treat for strollers and rose lovers. The wine from the Dornburger Schlossberg was as popular then as it is today. You cycle through the Saale valley back via Saaleck and Bad Kösen to Naumburg.

Today's stage involves a change of quarters. It goes through the Saale valley to Bad Kösen, which is known as a brine bath, its graduation house and the Saale wine. You leave the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region and follow the Ilm via Apolda to Weimar. On the way you can stop at one of the cozy wine bars or beer gardens.
