The tour begins with panoramic views from the iron bridge over the Douro River to the Atlantic Ocean. You'll cycle undisturbed on wide cycle paths along the south coast. The varied route leads along wooden boardwalks through dune landscapes, past beach cafés, and to the biological station in Aguda. Espinho beckons with its beautiful beaches, restaurants, and a casino. From there, you'll cycle through coastal forests to Ovar, from where you can easily return to Porto by train.

Take the comfortable 80-minute train ride to Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the medieval city center with its restored houses and palaces, the historic city walls, and the Ducal Palace. Ride the cable car (bike and all) up Mount Penha for breathtaking panoramic views, followed by a pleasant descent through eucalyptus forests. The tour continues along mostly flat paths, surrounded by Vinho Verde vineyards, to the thermal spa town of Vizela. From there, simply return to Porto by train.

Take the train to Valongo (30 min.) and start your tour in the Serra de Valongo nature reserve. Follow the wild and romantic Rio Ferreira through dense forests to the bustling Douro River. Enjoy the scenic ride along the riverbank and then cycle the last 7 km directly back to Porto's old town on the newly built river promenade. We recommend this tour on Sundays to avoid the traffic on the Douro riverbank.

Take the train north to Póvoa de Varzim (or an earlier stop) to customize your route length. Spend the day cycling south along the flat coast on excellent boardwalks and cycle paths, passing beautiful sandy beaches and expansive dunes. The Atlantic breeze will give you a pleasant push! In the afternoon, the route follows the Douro estuary and takes you along the waterfront directly back to Porto's old town.

Take the train to Braga, Portugal's oldest city and religious center. Stroll through the historic center and visit the oldest cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. Then cycle up to the famous pilgrimage church of Bom Jesus do Monte, bypassing the 600 steps. Continue up to the Santuário do Sameiro for sweeping panoramic views. A rewarding 8 km descent through the forest brings you back to Braga, from where you can catch the train back to Porto.
