Star hiking in Wernigerode

The Zilierbach is your companion as you head out of town. Then go uphill into the forest. We recommend the short detour to the Scharfenstein viewpoint. Enjoy the beautiful view. Sit back and enjoy the ride Harzhe narrow gauge railway. You will reach the highest point of the Harzit promotes. The legendary Brocken at an altitude of 1142 m welcomes you. Now it’s time to hike – always downhill. You reach your accommodation via the challenging Höllenstieg and later through the gorge-like valley of the Steinerne Renne.

In the morning you walk past the 16th century pleasure garden, later along the edge of the forest. Now there is a steep climb to Stapenberg. If visibility is good you can even see the Brocken! Continue hiking on the Annaweg. You can take a long break in the Christianental. At the end of the day you reach the almost 400 m high Agnesberg. From here you can see, among other things, the majestically enthroned Wernigerode Castle. After visiting the landmark, take the tourist train down to the city center.

Your destination today is the enchanting Ilsenburg. You walk across the so-called Heaven's Gate with ruins through mixed forests on the monastery hiking trail. The Drübeck Monastery invites you to linger. A visit to the 1000-year-old Benedictine monastery Ilsenburg is a must. Use the bus back.

The city of Wernigerode itself has a lot to offer. Whether an extensive visit to the castle, a tour of the miniature park “Kleiner Harz" or that Harzmuseum – decide for yourself what you want to do. End the trip with dinner.
