The spa town of Oberwiesenthal is the starting point for your star hike around the two highest mountains of the Ore Mountains: the Fichtelberg (1215 meters) and the Keilberg (1244 meters), located on the Czech side. Extensive spruce forests and mountain meadows characterize the landscape in one of Germany's most beautiful hiking regions.

Take the cable car (on your own) up to the Fichtelberg. Hike from the Fichtelberg along various paths, always downhill to Tellerhäuser, a small settlement on the upper Klingerbach stream. Stop for refreshments at the Erzgebirgstüberl inn on the Anton-Günther-Weg trail along the border back to the Fichtelberg. Take the cable car (on your own) back down to Oberwiesenthal.

Ascent to the Fichtelberg, Oberwiesenthal's local mountain. A well-marked hiking trail takes you to the summit. Continue over the ridge to Bozi Dar (God's Gab) in the Czech Republic. Continue on the path to the highest mountain in the Ore Mountains, the Keilberg (1244m). The round closes down the valley back to Oberwiesenthal.

Hike down the valley to Annaberg-Buchholz. On the way is Crottendorf, which is known for its incense cones. Your route leads through the forest along the ridge past the Kuhbrückenberg and Morgenberg with the valley in sight to Crottendorf. Continue across meadows and slopes to Annaberg-Buchholz. Return journey by public bus or train to Oberwiesenthal on your own.

Today you'll hike down the ridge trail to the Cranzahl reservoir, then up to the Bärenstein viewpoint. From the tower, you'll enjoy a remarkable panoramic view. There's an opportunity to stop for refreshments at the Bärensteinbaude inn. Descend to Cranzahl train station. Return independently on the over 100-year-old Fichtelberg Railway back to the spa town of Oberwiesenthal.

Overnight place: Oberwiesenthal
Round trip (at your own expense) on the historic Fichtelberg Railway to the village of Neudorf. In Neudorf, you begin your circular hike, which offers magnificent views of the Ore Mountains at various points (weather permitting). The narrow-gauge railway will take you back to Oberwiesenthal. The circular route leads around Neudorf, so you can leave the path and return to the starting point at various points; the hike can therefore be shortened according to your own preference.
