The bicycle tour on the Altmühltal cycle path takes you through a charming landscape with bizarre rocks, narrow valleys and spacious forest and meadow landscapes. Medieval and baroque buildings will captivate you and line your route from Rothenburg to Regensburg.
Individual arrival in Rothenburg od Tauber. On the first evening you can take a walk with the Rothenburg night watchman. Dreamy alleys and a protective city wall - step through one of the mighty city gates into another world.

You cycle through the upper Altmühltal past the Altmühltal town of Leutershausen, whose most famous son, Gustav Weißkopf, is commemorated by a monument. The medieval ambience can still be felt in Herrieden. Impressive architectural monuments can be found in the former royal seat of Ansbach.

You cycle along the leisurely flowing Altmühl and reach the romantic Altmühlsee, which invites you to take a break. Located in the Altmühltal nature park, you will find historic Weißenburg and the spa town of Treuchtlingen.

Bizarre rock formations now line the further course of the river through a landscape of unique beauty. In Solnhofen, home of the ancient bird Archeopteryx, you can experience living prehistoric times by searching for fossils in a quarry. The episcopal city of Eichstätt is a baroque natural jewel. Chocolate and coffee lovers will find culinary delights in the Café Chocolatique.

Visit the Rhine locks todayMainDanube Canal near Dietfurt. The path takes you through the Gungoldinger juniper heath to the three-castle town of Riedenburg, where you will find a magnificent collection of crystals and gemstones in the crystal museum. In order to shorten the route to approx. 55 km, it is possible to reserve a transfer from Dietfurt to Riedenburg on site (on your own, details with the travel documents).
Overnight place: Riedenburg region
A visit to the Liberation Hall in Kelheim is recommended. An imposing natural spectacle is the Danube Gorge near Weltenburg. Regensburg with its medieval townscape is considered a monument of 2000 years of art and cultural history. The Stone Bridge and St. Peter's Cathedral should not be missed on a city tour.
