The long-distance cycle route "Thuringian Town Chain" leads from the Wartburg town of Eisenach via the royal seat of Gotha to the cathedral town of Erfurt. You then continue to the classic city of Weimar and the university city of Jena, before you finally cycle via Gera to the skat city of Altenburg. This density of cultural and historical cities is complemented by a beautiful and varied landscape.

Day 1: Arrival in Eisenach
On their own. Look forward to the historic Wartburg town of Eisenach!
Day 2: Eisenach - Gotha, approx. 40 km
Following the course of the Hörsel, you cycle mostly on small roads through the Thuringian Basin to Gotha. On the way, marvel at the well-preserved Art Nouveau complex of the Boxberg racecourse with its well-known tourist restaurant and look forward to Friedenstein Castle and Gotha's main market, which is well worth seeing.
Day 3: Gotha - Erfurt, approx. 41 km
Today you cycle through Wechmar, which in 2003 was voted the "most beautiful village in Thuringia". Greeted by the "Drei Gleichen" castles, you follow the Gera through the most beautiful parks directly into the center of the old trading town of Erfurt with the striking cathedral and the built-over Krämerbrücke.
Day 4: Erfurt – Weimar, approx. 25 km
After a rather short day's stage, you roll into the classic city of Weimar. Goethe and Schiller, the Residenzschloss, the Bauhaus Museum, the park at the Ilm – everything is waiting for you!
Day 5: Weimar - Stadtroda, approx. 42 km
On the idyllic Ilm-Bicycleweg you leave Weimar and cycle to the university town of Jena with the Zeiss Planetarium and the Optical Museum. You can then easily follow the developed Saale cycle path and cycle in the narrow valley of the Roda to Stadtroda.
Day 6: Stadtroda - Gera, approx. 43 km
Pure enjoyment of nature! The fantastic route leads through the densely wooded Zeitzgrund and the beautiful Mühltal. In the afternoon you cycle on a former railway line and follow the upgraded Weiße-Elster-Bicycleweg to Gera.
Day 7: Gera - Altenburg, approx. 44 km
You cycle right through the area of the Federal Horticultural Show 2007 to Ronneburg. Marvel at how this former opencast uranium ore mining area of the Wismut has developed into a popular excursion area. You cycle on small roads to Altenburg with the towering, spacious castle complex and the playing card museum.
Day 8: Departure from Altenburg
After breakfast departure on your own.
