From Hamburg to the Kiel Canal to Kiel

From Hamburg, you head down the Elbe and along the North Sea coast to Brunsbüttel, following the North Sea Cycle Route. Then you continue on the Kiel Canal route to Kiel. Race your bikes against large ships that float alongside you, as tall as a multi-storey building, to the rhythm of the ship's diesel engine.

Along the banks of the Elbe from Hamburg through Blankenese to Wedel. Through the Elbe marshland protected by dikes via Uetersen to Elmshorn and Glückstadt.

The tour takes you through the charming little town of Glückstadt along the Elbe to Brunsbüttel. The Kiel Canal begins in Brunsbüttel. You can see many ocean giants in the large lock system. Overnight stay in Brunsbüttel* (overnight stay in Brunsbüttel ONLY possible in category 1).

Today you leave the North Sea on your bike tour. Watch the ebb and flow for the last time. Cycle along the world's busiest man-made waterway on consistently flat terrain. The Kiel Canal Cycle Path now always follows the canal via Hochdonn to Rendsburg. The more than 800-year-old city is lovable and worth experiencing.

Overnight place: Rendsburg

Pötte Kieken is the motto today. In Rensburg, the ship greeting system greets each ship according to its nationality with the corresponding national anthem. The trip continues via Lehmbek and Sehestedt along the canal but also in parts through the country towards Kiel. In Kiel, it is the lock system that you have to see. Then you cycle into the city along the fjord past port facilities, the marina to the Scandinavia quay, where the large ferries are moored or dock. If you want to see more of Kiel, you can cycle up to Friedrichsort and take the ferry to Laboe on your own, where the trip continues past the naval memorial towards the city. Overnight stay in Kiel.
