From Porto to Coimbra

Today the route enters the expansive and well-developed lagoon landscape of Aveiro, a unique biotope of shallow waters, small canals, and diverse wildlife. This area, protected from the Atlantic by extensive dunes, offers a picturesque contrast to the coastal drive.

Begin with a taste of culture in Ílhavo, home to the world-famous Vista-Alegre porcelain factory. Take a colorful break in Costa Nova to admire the famous striped palheiros (stones). The route then follows miles of dunes near the Atlantic Ocean and ends in the coastal town of Praia de Mira, easily reached via quiet cycle paths.

Today's stage offers wonderfully varied landscapes: Cycle 12 km through fragrant pine forests, past tranquil streams and historic watermills. The day culminates in a gentle 200-meter climb – your final effort before the magnificent, well-deserved descent to the coast and the wide, idyllic beaches of the fashionable seaside resort of Figueira da Foz.

Today, the route follows the majestic Mondego River, taking you inland through beautiful rural landscapes. Along the way, visit the medieval town of Montemor-o-Velho, crowned by its imposing hilltop castle. Your journey culminates as you cycle through the Choupal Natural Park, right next to the river, before reaching your destination: the historic university city of Coimbra.

Enjoy your last morning and immerse yourself in Coimbra's rich history. Explore the medieval old town and the magnificent historic university, and soak up the academic atmosphere. After a final Portuguese lunch, prepare for your return to Porto. Transfer from Coimbra to Porto at approximately 14:00 PM.
