Learn moreYou will explore the Baltic coast, including the seaside resort of Palanga and the Curonian Spit National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, either independently or with a guide on scenic hiking trails. Enjoy authentic Lithuanian rural life and discover the stunning natural landscape and birdlife while hiking in the Nemunas Delta. This region boasts one of the largest stork populations in Europe, with over a million birds passing through the Ventė (Winderburge Corner) each year during migration.
The tour begins and ends in the historic coastal city of Klaipėda (known for many years as Memel), which boasts a rich and varied history dating back to the 13th century. Today, it is a vibrant, modern city with a wealth of excellent leisure activities, from historical tours to water sports. There is a wide selection of cafes and restaurants, and numerous annual festivals, such as Jazz, Folklore & Sea. You can extend your stay here either at the beginning or end of the tour and upgrade your hotel from a 3-star to a 4-star hotel in Klaipėda (see price list) and even to a 4-star spa hotel in Nida (prices on request).
During the tour, you will spend three nights in Nida, the largest settlement on the Curonian Spit. It's the perfect place for a relaxing holiday by the sea, on white sandy beaches, or you can explore the unique surroundings on foot, including the Great Parnidis Dune (50 meters high), the birdlife, the influence of the Curonian Lagoon, and more. The Curonian Spit has many other beautiful places worth seeing and exploring on foot! The Dead (Grey) Dunes near Pervalka and a colony of grey herons and cormorants in Juodkrantė are just a few of the places you shouldn't miss during the tour.
Arrival in Klaipeda (Memel). Individual transfer to your hotel (not included). Accommodation at the hotel.
At 09:00 AM, an informative meeting will be held at the hotel with a local guide. A short transfer by minibus into the interior (included) will take you to your starting point, where your hike will begin on small country roads and forest paths along the Curonian Lagoon. Today's hike takes you through the Nemunas Delta Regional Park. The route to Ventė follows the Minija River and passes the village of Minija (Mingė), also known as the "Lithuanian Venice" due to its beautiful and unique landscape, where the only road is a river and the means of transport is a boat. The village lies on both banks of the Minija River, although there is no bridge in this area. The village buildings stand on both sides of the river, with the facades of all the houses facing the "road"—the Minija River. Your hike concludes at the hotel on the Curonian Lagoon in Ventė. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Accommodation location: Vente
Hike to Ventė (Winderburger Ecke), where you can visit the Ornithological Museum, one of the first bird observatories in Europe, and the 19th-century lighthouse. The lighthouse offers panoramic views of the unique landscape – the shimmering waters of the Curonian Lagoon and the vast sand dunes. Every year, a million birds migrate through Ventė. This region is known as the Land of Storks because white storks are recognized as the national bird of Lithuania. In the afternoon, take a boat across the Curonian Lagoon to Nida. Upon arrival in Nida, enjoy a short walk through the resort to your hotel.
Overnight stay in Nida
The day is yours to explore Nida, a former fishing village on the Curonian Spit, bordered by the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other. Today, Nida is the largest town on the Curonian Spit and one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Lithuania. Hike along the impressive sand dunes to the Baltic Sea, where you can enjoy white sandy beaches and swim in the sea. Visit Nida's most famous landmarks – Thomas Mann's summer house, the Amber Gallery, and the Fisherman's House.
Overnight stay in Nida
In the morning, transfer by minivan to the Dead (Grey) Dunes (transfer included), where your hike begins on a scenic path within the strictly protected Nagliai Nature Reserve (entrance not included). This is the site where four former villages were buried in the sand centuries ago. Strong winds create a unique landscape here – steep sand dunes with hollows and erosion. End your hike in Pervalka or continue along the Curonian Lagoon to Preila. Along the way, you'll pass some of the most picturesque spots on the Curonian Spit: Horse Horn and the lighthouse, Pervalka and Karvaičiai bays with birdwatching towers, and more. From Preila, you can take a public bus back to Nida. You can also continue the hike from Preila to Nida, walking along the Curonian Lagoon (an additional 13 km), including the climb to the highest dune, Vecekrugas (67 m).
Overnight stay in Nida
You will travel by public bus to Juodkrantė (not included), where you will embark on a circular hike showcasing some of the natural and cultural highlights of the Curonian Spit. Your route begins at Amber Bay, continues into the primeval forest, passes the mystical wooden sculptures of Lithuanian legends scattered along a forest path on Witches' Hill, and strolls through an acidic forest shaped by one of Europe's largest cormorant colonies. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure, whether you prefer to spend more time in one of the many local restaurants or simply relax and soak up the sun on the white sandy beach, swim in the sea, and so on. Finally, you will travel by speedboat from Juodkrantė to Klaipėda (or a minivan transfer, included).
Overnight stay in Klaipeda
Transfer by minivan to the Baltic Sea Coast Regional Park (included), where your hike along the Baltic coast to Palanga will begin. Along the way, you'll discover the "Dutchman's Hat"—a 24-meter-high hill on the Baltic coast. In Palanga, you can visit the botanical garden with its Amber Museum. Numerous cafes on the famous Basanavičius Street invite you to linger. Stroll along the 470-meter-long pier. Return to Klaipeda (Memel) by public bus (not included).
