Learn the eastern part of the Harzhe-Hexen-Stiegs on a varied and promising hiking holiday in the Harz know! Immediately after your arrival you can see the "colorful city on the Harz" Visit Wernigerode. Small half-timbered houses, one of the most beautiful town halls in Germany and the castle enthroned above the city are waiting for your visit.

After your arrival, stroll through the winding streets of the "colorful city on the Harz“. You can take the tourist train (on your own) up to the Schlossberg in comfort. Enjoy the view of Wernigerode.

Overnight place: Wernigerode

A special highlight is the ride with the Harzhe narrow-gauge railway on the Brocken, which has a very special nostalgic charm (self-pay). Take a leisurely hike down the Hexen-Stieg to Schierke.
Walking time approx. 3,0 hours

Overnight place: Schierke

Past the Trudenstein and through Drei-Annen-Hohne it goes downhill to the Königshütte waterfall. Now you meet the Bode river and a new landscape appears - the limestone quarrying above ground is still in operation. From the Hoher Kleef vantage point you have a magnificent view over the Rübeland with its stalactite caves, which are well worth seeing.
Walking time approx. 6 hours

Of course, we have appropriate alternatives ready, which will look like this:

• Regular hiking route Schierke - Rübeland (20 km) and then bus to Hasselfelde (20 minutes) or Elbingerode (6 min), where you spend the night, morning bus ride from Hasselfelde/Elbingerode to Rübeland and continue walking

  • (Bus tickets are included in the tourist tax, which you pay on the spot (no additional costs))
  • Hiking tour Schierke - Elbingerode directly (approx. 15 km),
    • Elbingerode - Altenbrak directly (approx. 21 km), no bus journeys necessary
  • Hiking tour Schierke - Hasselfelde directly (southern route of the Hexenstieg), approx. 23 km,
    • Hasselfelde - Altenbrak also directly on the southern route (approx. 11 km, 15 km to Treseburg)
  • Double overnight stay in Altenbrak (with afternoon and morning transfers)

Please note that there will be no choice between the options, we will book these based on availability and will advise you on confirmation.

We will try to resolve this situation for you at no additional cost.
If there are situations that require an extra charge, we will inform you immediately.

Overnight place: Hasselfelde / Elbingerode / Altenbrak

This section takes you on idyllic forest and meadow paths through the "old mining" area with numerous geological features. Past the Wendefurth dam and through the Mühlental you reach the Bodetal.

Overnight place: Altenbrak/Treseburg

On the last day of hiking, you will walk through the “Grand Canyon of Germany”: the Bodetal with its steep granite rocks. Mostly leading along narrow paths, you will be impressed by this unique rocky gorge. You reach Thale via the Teufelsbrücke. The place is known for the Hexentanzplatz or the Rosstrappe, which can also be easily reached by cable car (self-pay). The train takes you to Quedlinburg in a few minutes.

Overnight place: Quedlinburg

Stroll through the historic streets and enjoy the many picturesque and rustic half-timbered houses and the Collegiate Church of St. Servatius, one of the most important Romanesque buildings. You spend the night again in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Quedlinburg.
