The Weser is one of the most important and most beautiful German rivers. The starting point of this cycle tour is the half-timbered idyll of Hann. Münden - where the Werra and Fulda form the Weser. Already in this small town you will witness the impressive Weser Renaissance with carefully restored half-timbered houses - a visual delight. From here you follow the meanders of the river through the Weserbergland, which has many treasures in store with numerous forest areas and small, pretty towns. On the way you will come across medieval half-timbered towns such as Höxter, Rinteln or Hameln, meet the lying baron Münchhausen in Bodenwerder, and the Pied Piper town of Hameln will enchant you with its magnificent old town. Nienburg also impresses with its old town, Verden with its cathedral and the city of Bremen with Roland, the town musicians and the Schnoor district. At the end of the tour, Cuxhaven awaits you with a pinch of sea.

Your bike tour should start at the Weserstein. Exactly where Werra and Fulda "kiss". The center of Bad Karlshafen offers an interesting contrast to the usual half-timbered idyll with its pretty, renovated houses in the baroque style.

Overnight place: Karlshafen or Beverungen

There are numerous highlights along the way: the town of Fürstenberg with its porcelain factory and the old Hanseatic town of Höxter with more than 160 buildings worthy of monuments, mostly half-timbered houses. The small town of Beverungen has retained much of its historic face. Holzminden is known for the production of aromatic essences and perfume oils.

Overnight place: Holzminden or Bodenwerder

Many a romantic village along the way invites you to linger. Corvey Castle, the former imperial abbey near Höxter, offers an attractive mixture of art and culture. The romantic town of Bodenwerder was made famous by the world famous Liar Baron von Münchhausen. The Pied Piper town of Hameln impresses with an intact old town, wonderful half-timbered houses and buildings in the typical style of the Weser Renaissance from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Overnight place: Hamelin or Rinteln

At Porta Westfalica, the river breaks through the Wiehen and Weser Mountains and reaches the North German Plain. On the way, the 13th-century town of Rinteln offers numerous buildings from the Weser Renaissance. Minden was once a thriving trading town in the Middle Ages, but was severely damaged in World War II. It was rebuilt as part of an exemplary urban redevelopment.

Overnight place: Minden

After the low mountain ranges, a romantic, protected floodplain landscape dominates today - the Middle Weser. You have a wide view over the flat country with meadows, black and white spotted cows, isolated farms and numerous windmills. For Nienburg waren the strong fortifications are characteristic and even today the pretty old town is well worth seeing.

Overnight place: Nienburg

The history-charged landscape of the Middle Weser, the county of Hoya, is crossed today on the Weser Cycle Path. Original villages and isolated farmsteads can be found in this distinctive Weser Marsh. After this natural stage, Verden offers a grand finale. The symbol of this city is the cathedral. Verden is known as a rider and horse town.

Overnight place: Verden

Away from the streets and through park-like areas, the cycle path leads car-free into the city center of Bremen. As the second largest North Sea port, the city is of great importance in shipping and overseas trade. Worth seeing are the Schnoor district, the Roland and the monument to the Bremen Town Musicians.

Overnight place: Bremen

On today's stage you follow the Weser cycle path from Bremen through Lemwerder to Elsfleth with its well-known Hunte barrage.

Overnight place: Elsfleth or surroundings

Start today along the Weser via Brake to Nordenham. We continue with the Blexen ferry to Bremerhaven. The emigration center, the climate house and the extensive harbor facilities await you there.

Beautiful bike ride

From the travel documents to the luggage transport, we are very satisfied with the organization of this bike tour. Also the accommodations waren Consistently good to very good, both in terms of location and food. Only with the last accommodation (in Cuxhaven) did we have to deal with a somewhat harsh landlady. The name of the guest house ("Simply cozy") may well apply to the premises, but not to the atmosphere spread by the landlady.

Mid to late June 2016 we (both 59 years old). route from Hann. Münden to Cuxhaven under the wheels. Only two words are necessary for a description: Simply great! There is simply nothing to complain about. Highly recommended !
- Edgar Fehlman
