The Weser is one of the most important and most beautiful German rivers. The starting point of this cycle tour is the half-timbered idyll of Hann. Münden - where the Werra and Fulda form the Weser. Already in this small town you will witness the impressive Weser Renaissance with carefully restored half-timbered houses - a visual delight. On the way you will come across medieval half-timbered towns such as Höxter, Rinteln or Hameln. In Bodenwerder you will meet the lying baron Münchhausen, and the Pied Piper city of Hamelin will enchant you with its magnificent old town. All in all, a scenic and culturally very interesting journey, which is easy and relaxing to cycle due to the consistently flat route.

In the three-river city, Fulda and Werra unite at the Weserstein to form the Weser. Over 700 restored half-timbered houses from six centuries form Hann. Münden's old town. The town hall Hann. Mündens is considered one of the most beautiful representative buildings from the Weser Renaissance.

Overnight place: Hann. mouths

You start your journey at the Weserstein. On your way to Bad Karlshafen, you will pass by Hemeln, which is charmingly located in the Weser Valley, and the former Benedictine abbey of Bursfelde, founded in 1093. Bad Karlshafen's baroque old town forms an attractive contrast to the Weser Renaissance and the town's Huguenot Museum commemorates its founders. But maybe a stay at the Weser-Therme will tempt you? "Soleheilbad" is another nickname of Bad Karlshafen.

Overnight place: Bad Karlshafen or Beverungen

Today you drive past the porcelain town of Fürstenberg with the castle of the same name and the old Hanseatic town of Höxter to Holzminden or on to Bodenwerder. Holzminden bears the nickname "City of Fragrances and Flavors" because the production of fragrances and flavors is of great importance here. And so a fragrant tour leads to the sights of the city. Bodenwerder is the home of Baron Münchhausen, known as the Baron of Lies, to whom a museum is dedicated here.

Overnight place: Holzminden or Bodenwerder

Many a romantic village along the way invites you to linger. The Pied Piper town of Hameln impresses with an intact old town, wonderful half-timbered houses and buildings in the typical style of the Weser Renaissance from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Overnight place: Hamelin or Rinteln

At Porta Westfalica the river breaks through the Wiehen and Weser Mountains and reaches the North German lowlands. On the way, the small town of Rinteln from the 13th century offers numerous Weser Renaissance buildings. Minden was once a thriving trading town in the Middle Ages, but was badly destroyed in World War II. It was able to be rebuilt as part of an exemplary urban renovation. The tour from Hameln to Minden is very long at 70 km and required all of our efforts until the return transport at 15 p.m. All in all it was a great tour.
