The province of Zeeland, also known as the land in the sea, is located in the west of the Netherlands and consists mostly of islands and peninsulas. The Ooster- and Westerschelde arms of the sea reach deep into the Zeeland landscape. The Oosterschelde National Park, the largest national park in the Netherlands, is one of the most species-rich habitats in Europe and when the water masses retreat at low tide, many different bird species cavort between the seals on the exposed sandbanks. Cycle with us from the energetic city of Rotterdam - the city stands for relaxed and uncomplicated togetherness like no other city in the Netherlands - to the province of Zeeland. Discover the historic towns of Zierikzee, Middelburg and the Delta Works, Holland's most impressive storm surge barriers. And try delicious mussels, oysters or the Oosterschelde lobster. You should not miss a stop in one of the numerous fish restaurants!

Bike and boat tour map of the Zeeland route with the MS OlympiaIndividual arrival in Rotterdam. Embarkation at around 16:00 p.m. Before that, you might have time to visit the magnificent Rotterdam Market Hall. The Dutch say it is their "answer to the Sistine Chapel". At around 18:00 p.m., a boat trip to the oldest city in Holland, Dordrecht, impressively situated between three large rivers.

Overnight place: Dordrecht

In the early morning your ship takes you to Willemstad, a small fortress town worth seeing from the 17th/18th. Century. The tranquil place impresses with the freshly caught fish, which can be tasted in many restaurants. This is where you start your first bike tour. You cross the inland waters of the Haringvliet via the Volkerakdam and cycle across open fields and through picturesque farming villages to the popular water sports resort of Hellevoetsluis.

Overnight place: Hellevoetsluis

Before you start your bike tour, you should go on a discovery tour through the large harbor and make a detour to the old lighthouse in the south of the city. You cycle over the Haringvliet and through small villages like Stellendam, agricultural places like Melissant and water sports places like Herkingen with a large marina. You cycle via the Grevelingendam to the mussel village of Bruinisse. A stroll through the harbor to the north of the city is a must for any visitor.

Overnight place: Bruinisse

Today you can visit the "Watersnoodmuseum" during your bike tour. Here you can find out everything about the great flood disaster of 1953 and the "drowned" village of Viane, which was flooded and never rebuilt. Continue towards Zierikzee, which is one of the ten most beautiful Dutch monument towns. The "Dicke Turm" rises high above the city. A detour to the historical center is worthwhile. Then you drive on over the Zeelandbrug - an impressive structure 5 km long, built on 54 pillars - to your destination for the day - the port town of Veere. Imposing yachts are now moored where richly laden ships from Scotland used to dock.

Overnight place: Veere

Experience the "picture book Holland" on today's bike tour. Discover the former working island Neeltje Jans, which was dug up especially for the construction of the Oosterschelde storm surge barrier, the impressive structure of the Delta Works. You have the opportunity to admire the locks not only up close, but also from the inside. The adjoining amusement park "Deltapark" gives an insight into the life of the sea lions and the underwater world of the Oosterschelde (optional).

The first stop on your cycle tour is Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland. The city has a rich past and was once the most important city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam. Numerous shops and cafés invite you to visit. During a city tour (optional) you have the opportunity to learn all sorts of interesting and worth knowing things about the enchanting city. We continue through the picturesque, typically Dutch landscape on the Walcheren peninsula. Wide beaches, forests and dunes await you. Nowhere else in the Netherlands does the sun shine as often and for as long as here.

On the last cycling stage you will experience the most famous windmills in the Netherlands at the Kinderdijk. The 19 well-preserved mills date from the 18th century and have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It's worth a visit! You continue along the Maas to Rotterdam. Take the opportunity to take a harbor tour of Europe's largest deep-water port and admire the skyline and impressive architecture from the water.
