The Usedom Bike path ☀️

The Usedom Bike path

Usedom is considered a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and cyclists. The network of paths on Germany's second largest island is well developed. The most popular and largely flat is the approximately 40 km long one Baltic Coast Cycle Route also as Usedomdesignated cycle path. He leads from Usedoms northern tip via Karlshagen along the Three Emperor Baths to the Polish border. There are attractions for the whole family along the route. In the seaside resort of Trassenheide you can visit a butterfly farm. Also the Usedom-Park im Wiesenweg is great fun for young and old. Right next door, the “upside down house” gives visitors an unusual perspective.

In the four amber baths of Zempin, Koserow, Loddin and Ueckerritz, everything revolves around the "Gold of the Baltic Sea". If you like, you can hike in the footsteps of the legendary amber witch to the Streckelsberg. The famous imperial spas of Bansin, Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck line up like pearls on a string. Usedom - the sunny Baltic Sea island with variety

The Island Usedom is a great experience for every bike tour fan. Especially for families with younger children and cyclists who like to take it easy or on extremssporting challenges, is the largely flat landscape Usedomsa true gift. The maximum gradient that you can encounter here is 60 meters in altitude. A fresh breeze often accompanies you when cycling on the island, occasionally a slightly stronger wind. Often advertised as a sun island, is Usedom With 1906 hours of sunshine a year, it is the sunniest area in Germany and the Baltic Sea. So the good weather guarantee comes with you when you go on a bike tour Usedom.

Beautiful lakes, imposing windmills and culinary delights

The sea baths Usedoms are ideally connected by the approximately 200 km long, well-developed network of cycle paths on the island. The cycle paths are mainly along the coast, which makes cycling here very exciting and varied.

While the north-west of the island shows almost entirely flat land, the south-east landscape of the island is characterized by rolling hills, which is why it is also "Usedomhe is called Switzerland”.

Usedom has numerous beautiful lakes to offer, which are always worth a detour and invite you to linger and dream. The Schmollensee and the Gothensee in the east of the island are the two largest lakes. On a bike tour around the Schmollensee you can admire several old windmills, including the Dutch windmill in Benz. It was built around 1823 and has since passed through many hands until it was bought by the German painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein in 1974, restored and opened to the public as a technical monument. If you stop here during your tour, you can treat yourself to freshly baked cakes and fragrant coffee.

The Achterland - fascinating cottage in untouched nature

If you like smaller differences in altitude, then a trip to the backcountry should not be missing from your route. The areas of the island that face the backwaters, the Szczecin Lagoon and the Peenestrom belong to the Achterland.

Away from the sometimes somewhat hectic hustle and bustle of the Baltic coast towns, you will find real relaxation and distance from city life here in the mostly untouched and still original nature. Green forests, many lakes and rare plants and animals make this landscape an experience for every nature lover. Here you can really let your soul dangle. The many small towns with their very own charm are reminiscent of past farming and fishing settlements with their rustic fishing cottages from the 18th century.

The beautiful moated castle Mellenthin is located in the middle of the island's nature park Usedom and is surrounded by mighty, impressive oak trees. When you visit the castle, you will feel as if you have been transported to a fairy tale – this wonderful gem is so magical. Stroll through the idyllic castle park under old trees steeped in history. In the castle restaurant you can try the first-class, home-style cooking with fresh, regional products. If you are more in the mood for something baked, you can also treat yourself to a piece of torte or cake from the in-house castle bakery. Or you can relax with a home-brewed beer in the castle's rustic, knightly brewery.
